Most people do not realise that they can save money by buying items at the Deli at Coles and Woolworths rather than picking up pre-packaged ones.
Whilst there are not many items to choose from here are five items that can save dollars from your grocery bill.
We eat a lot of chicken in our household so much so that I usually buy 3 pre-packaged lots of 2-3 chicken breasts from the meat section. For your standard pack this will costs you $15.50 per kilogram. If I went and bought the same chicken breasts from the deli counter it would only cost me $11.48 per kilogram.
If you love to have a Sunday breakfast of eggs and bacon or even just want to add some to your cooking there is a saving. For Primo packaged Middle rasher bacon you will pay $11.96 per kilogram. The deli again will give you savings at $9.90 per kilogram.
Ham had one of the biggest differences between the deli and packaged ham of nearly double the price. Shaved premium ham in the deli cost $16.50 per kilogram as compared to $32.90 per kilogram for Primo premium English Shaved Ham. If you send your kids off to school with Ham sandwiches this could save you immensely over the year.
Shaved chicken is also a favourite for sandwiches. Steggles premium shaved chicken in the deli will cost $15.00 per kilogram. For Primo packaged brands it will cost you $32.90 per kilogram and for Hans it will set you back $40.30 per kilogram. That is upping towards 2 thirds more expensive.
Obviously there is a vast array of different cheese products you can grab from the deli. For standard Australian Feta the deli will cost you $13.98 per kilogram. Even in the cheese section the Coles branded feta cheese costs $17.50 per kilogram which was the cheapest brand available.
Granted the deli section has limited variety of products however if you go through a lot of these items like our household there is an easy way you can save a couple of dollars each shopping trip!
