The reason we need to start a budget

09 Apr 08 / Posted by: Alex Wilson

Why start a budget? What is the point of budgeting? Without understanding these key points, your budgeting efforts will end up amounting to nothing. Strict understanding of how budgets will help you and the reason they are a valid part of personal finance will quickly help you achieve your savings goals, so now is your chance to understand why we need budgets.

Budgeting has its place in every household, it will help you achieve saving goals and avoid debt, so here are a few reasons to explain why budgeting your money is a very clever thing to do.

Reasons for budgeting:

It provides a frame work for saving money

Budgeting will help you understand where you spend your money, simple as that. This basic framework will help you understand the multitude of ways that you can save money if you are careful with your money.

No more wasting money

Budgets to the rescue! No longer will you waste money on things you don’t need or shouldn’t splurge on as each dollar will be accounted for, leaving a very nasty feeling if you have a dent of a couple hundred dollars just because you wanted some new shoes.

Wasting money should be easily stopped when following a budget, as your expenses will be monitored closely and you will learn where you waste your money.

Money should work for you

You should use your money for self gain, enjoyment and family. It should be working for you, not getting wasted away on things you don’t want to spend on. If you find yourself paying to many expensive electricity bills, find a way to minimise them! Your money is hard earned; don’t just give it away without a fight.

Help avoid going into debt

The biggest reason we need budgets is that it will make our money last longer and every second our money lasts equates to avoiding using credit for life. If you use your money wisely and forecast what you need, you should easily be able to live a debt free life except for large assets like a house or car.

It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you save

This is a point I love to explain to people, it does not matter how much money you make (it does I know, but stay with me!) it is how you then use that money and how much you manage to save for your future goals and ambitions.

If you are a movie star who makes movies for $10Million dollars a film, that is great – but if you also have a lavish lifestyle that includes many houses valued well over $10Million dollars, you can quickly find yourself not having enough cash on hand.

Future goals and ambitions

This is my personal favourite. Why start a budget? Because you want to save money for something you want/need/desire. Maybe you want to retire early? Or maybe you just want the latest gadget – either way you are going to need a budget to help you save for it. Set many goals with very high ambitions, it is the only way you are going to achieve.

Hi, my name is Rhys Campbell, and I am the creator of EasyBudgeting, a website which is working towards making budgeting easier. I was hoping for a quick opportunity to offer you some information about my site and the EasyBudgeting Personal Budget Planner as I feel that it may be of assistance to people who visitor your website.
I would first like to mention that this email is not related to trying to sell advertising, trying to acquire advertising, or attempting to engage in any sort of link partnership.
EasyBudgeting was created to help people who struggle with budgeting. Being a Chartered Accountant with over 10 years of experience in Finance and Commerce worldwide, I applied some of my skills and knowledge to formulate an integrated Microsoft Excel based budgeting tool which takes away the stress and anxiety commonly associated with the budgeting process.
I have created a simple, straightforward and easy to use 12 month budget planner to help people get back in control of their finances. Providing the budget planner via Microsoft Excel means users are presented with a tool which operates in a well known application, eliminating the need to download, and learn, new and often complicated software. Also, I was able to incorporate intelligent formulas and drop down menu selection options, which greatly assists users, and saves time, when preparing the budget data.
I found your site through a search on Google, and I thought you might be interested in visiting my website, and perhaps feel it could be beneficial to your visitors.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Rhys Campbell
