An article for hump day. Drawn from MSN Money, here are the ten most disliked jobs going, the reasons they’re so dreadful and tips and tricks for getting through the work day.
10. Marketing Manager
Responsible for overseeing advertising and promotion, often for large companies. Sales objectives, customer satisfaction, this is your forte. Job dissatisfaction is often due to a lack of direction- you make up your own strategies and are often left adrift by everyone else. Ways to improve the job? Enjoy the lack of direction, and make it your own.
9. CNC Machinest
Operator of computer control machines in factories. A bit of a button pusher,. while remaining a job solely for the specialised. There’s also not much advancement, which lowers morale. Tips? Take it for what it is, a paycheck at the end of the month with high job security.
8. Techie
Has to be rotten most days- you’re the guy that has to fix the ridiculous problems people have with their technology. They can’t email, their internet is slow. You’re quick to be blamed, slow to be praised. Tips? Make yourself invaluable and reorganise the systems you’re working with your way, or look at jobs with similar skills but less annoying questions.
7. Law Clerk
Competitive, sure, and great on the CV. But spending 100+ hours a week assisting a judge with the nitty gritty of law can take its toll. Tips? Stick it out. You’re here for a reason, not forever. Work hard here, and it’ll get you where you need to go.
6. Electronics Technician
The folks that fix and maintain our electronics. Possibly somewhat stultifying. Tips? Find a company you enjoy working for, with the right flexibility for you, and appreciate the job for what it allows you to do outside of work hours.
5. Technical Specialist
Until writing this article, I couldn’t have told you what a technical specialist did. Apparently, if you have a construction project of medium to large infrastructures you want to get off the ground, you need one of these guys. Hard, complex, requires expertise. Tips? Find projects you are passionate about, or a company who’s ethos you enjoy. Management gives you trouble, head out the door. You’re hot property.
4. Senior Web Designer
Everyone has a vision for their website, no budget to get it done, and no conception of what is possible. On top of that, you’re meant to be around 24/7. Tips? Set work hours, and don’t pick up the phone otherwise. Spend time on the brief and try to explain what is possible and what isn’t to save hassle down the road.
3. Product Manager
Managing what products will work for your company. Tips? Find a product you like and make it work.
2. Director Of Sales And Marketing
A lack of direction and a lack of growth are the main factors in job dissatisfaction here. The only tip to be offered is to communicate clearly with upper management about your performance indicators and, if reached, the advancement you expect to follow. Or market something super fun.
1. Director of Information Technology
The most hated job of all. Not much kudos, lots of annoying tasks. Came as a surprise to me that IT would bag number one. Any tips and tricks out there to improve the day-to-day?
