More On How Organisation Will Save You Money
This article is sadly one hundred percent inspired by my actions this week. Every where I turned was another aspect of my life that was causing easily-avoided expense. Organising yourself and your finances might seem like a small step, but it will save you a lot of money in the long-term. Here’s how.
Late Fees
A quick google of ‘late fees’ will fairly quickly show how many ways we get trapped into spending unnecessary money. It foes beyond the money we spend on overdrawn bank accounts or late bill payments. Think about the ‘small’ amounts you spend on overdue library books- a cost you could easily avert if you either returned them on time or spent 5 minutes calling the library and renewing them. Think video store late fees or not paying for your toll within 3 days. There are late fees should you fail to join an organisation- say a student organization- within an allotted time. Write down every date, and set a reminder for yourself. Or, better yet, pay everything the day it arrives. It might be a pinch at the time, but it will save you in the long run and can ensure you know exactly what is and what isn’r discretionary spending.
Quick Buy
You know you need an item- for school, or work, or the holiday you’re about to take. It’s an essential, but for some reason (who knows why) we delay buying it. I like to delay things until I needed them yesterday and then have to purchase in a panic. Organisation is an easy way to save money every purchase, sometimes even significant money. A few ideas; research the lowest price as a bargaining tip, organize to save up the cash so you can get cash prices, or invest in something that is a great deal but might take a while longer to get your hands on. Time can save you money.
Negotiation
Did you know that you can get your first traffic infringement waived if you appeal to State Debt Recovery, waving around your good record and suggesting how you’ve changed? Of you’ve had your license a long time without a problem, they might even look kindly on you. I could have done that this week, but instead ran out of time and had to pay the fine instead. Organisation allows you to negotiate- anything from more suitable working hours to a reduced rate on your credit card. Panic can mean you spend large amounts of money at the last minute because you’re out of time.
Promotion
You’ve got an event or a new product. it’s great, every one would love it, except that no one knows about it. You spent so long putting it together, you haven’t had a chance to promote it priorly. There’s no quicker way to lose money. Promotion needs to be viewed as equally important to product- it’s all about the sell. If you can organize to promote properly- and it doesn’t even have to be for you, it could be as simple as a school fete or charity event- your efforts will be returned.
Efficiency
You lose a receipt. Or your filing system is so obsolete, you actually have invented a new language to try and make it work. It all costs. Spending a full day getting all your systems in order might seem massive, but the time you’ll save over the next couple of years will be a godsend. On top of the time resources, you’ll save actual resources- if your organization works properly, you’ll be able to quickly balance and redress budgets, manage your savings plan and never have to forget a deduction due to missing data again.
