Inspiration to become debt free and start your savings
There is a lot of discussion about saving money here at Savings Guide, but not enough discussion about a key problem to many peoples financial situation, that being ‘How do I get motivated and really get stuck into my financial goals?’.
Inspiration needs to come from within your heart and from a deep desire to truly fix your situation financially. You will need to be focused and ready to tackle your issues if you want to stand a chance of becoming debt free, starting a savings account and really pushing towards a better life.
Ask yourself; ‘How am I going to fix this problem?’ and get competitive with yourself about getting out of the problem.
Whether it be saving money, reducing your debt or finding ways to become more financially responsible to make your money last longer – we really need to look at ways of gaining inspiration to do so. So let’s take a moment to look at a number of feel good reasons that becoming debt free will be the best move you have ever made.
Imagine having no minor debts
This would mean you would not have to get paid fortnightly and immediately start dividing your money up into debt payments. No more credit card debts, no more payments towards houses and TV purchases. You would be able to use your full salary for saving and gearing towards investments for the future of not only yourself but your children as well.
Reasons that you will love being debt free
- You will now live for the now, no longer paying off your past.
- No longer will you have to think about interest charges, payments or late fee’s on money you owe, which made you feel like you were taking one step forward with two steps backwards.
- You will sleep well at night. No more restless nights or hours spent figuring out how to survive your debts and money owing.
- You now earn interest on your savings – not pay interest on your debt. Imagine that feeling?
- You will be extremely knowledgable about debt and the traps it holds. You will value your money much more highly after getting out of debt as to ensure you never get back into debt.
- You can start planning towards your retirement by adding extra payments to your Superannuation.
- Collecting the mail will no longer be a dreaded experience of receiving bill after bill.
- You can pay off any outstanding education costs you may owe.
- Debt creates a lot of emotional baggage and concerns. Imagine them thrown out the window and what you could now focus your energy on? Maybe doing something new for yourself or building stronger relationships with your family?
- You will be setting a great example for your kids.
- With no debts to worry about, you can focus on creating that dreamed of nest egg or saving towards emergency funds for you and your family.

Debt is serious, it will hold you back in life. I learnt the hard way -then again, don’t most of us learn it the hard way?
My money goes straight into this black hole i call my mistakes.. the best way is to:
1-move somewhere rent free! (aka parents? ring a bell?)
2-keep a book handy, work out a budget
3-keep positive; just think of it as a countdown to free-ness!
Good tips Cassie! I think trying to cut out the immediate expenses is the right way to go – even if it does mean moving back home!
