(Given the fact that I am novice in this area - I am more than open to any SGC member comments) When pondering on a holding a lawn sale to clear out unused items in my house plus any extra's I can generate a decent profit on at the cost of a little effort in my spare time (seedlings, drinks & refreshments etc), I discovered the concept of arranging a STREET LAWN SALE. Street Garage Sales - Link Extra info here The benefits are that it can generate more potential customers, lower costs, increase sales and actually be a worthwhile endeavor ? Any comments ?

About two and half years ago we had a two properties garage sale.
We live in a rural community, only about twenty to thirty minutes from the nearest suburban area. So garage sales aren't usually viable where we live. Our next door neighbors were selling almost every thing they owned and heading off around Australia for three - five years. So we decided to advertise it as a huge two property garage sale. And from memory a few other in the area also had garage sales on the same weekend. We held it over two days. We sold heaps. They sold almost the lot. And believe me there was so much to choose from. Just think about what a normal blokes shed contains, then times it by ten. Jamie had everything the rural bloke needed and some. We got a heap from them ourselves and neighbors got to go through on the friday and put sold strickers on stuff they wanted. I had such a big clean out of kids toys we didn't use anymore. We even sold two violins my daughter had outgrown and hadn't bothered to sell. We did keep her first really little one as a keepsake. It looks good displayed in her music room with all the other current instruments. I think the sale was such a good success because firstly we combined to make it more viable for people to make the trip. But secondly and most importantly the pricing needs to be realistic. People go to garage sales to get a bargain. If you don't use it anymore then you should be realistic about the price. At the end of the day if your just going to take it to the OP shop then why wouldn't you sell it for CHEAP. I sold lots of the stuff we had for less than $1.00. |
