Shopping for Cheap Goods and Bargains

11 Jan 09 / Posted by: Alex Wilson

If you are looking to save money on larger purchases, or save money on small purchases for that matter – the power of pre shopping and shopping around online can really help you find those money saving bargains.

The internet has many sites that can help you find the cheap goods and bargains you are after, all from the comfort of your home computer.

This is not to say you have to buy the goods online, instead you can shop around online and find the best prices and bargains from retailers you can physically visit in your local CBD, effectively avoiding making a transaction online while still getting the best price you can find in your local area.

Pre-Shopping Tips

To help you save money on your shopping, it is wise to first think about the following points to ensure you are actually about to buy something you really need.

  1. Is this actually what I am looking for?
  2. Is the price within my budget?
  3. How am I going to pay for this item? Cash, Cheque or Credit Card?
  4. Have I shopped around enough on the price of this item?
  5. Will I regret this purchase? Is it an impulse buy?

Cheap Goods and Bargains

In order to save money on your purchases, you need to know where to begin to find the best deals on the product you are after.

It has become the standard for major retailers to release their sales and cheap goods that are about to be on sale via online catalogues, which then get submitted to major online catalogue sites that allow you to flip through the pages and select items easily that you wish to buy in person.

Recently I have been using Lasoo.com.au, where you can Create a Pre-Shop List to Win $10,000 and learn how researching your purchases before hand can save you a lot of money.

I was able to find the camera I wanted at 6 different camera stores in the Sydney CBD, followed by ascertaining which was the cheapest – that way when I got to the city, instead of walking to 6 different shops and searching, I was able to walk directly to Ted’s Camera House and pick up my new camera at the best possible price.

Online Catalogues

Lasoo has to be Australia’s innovative and latest online shopping catalogue website, that gives you the power to pre-shop and create a list of things at the right prices you want to buy next time you go into the shops (CBD or Major Town Centre).

So how does Lasoo work you say? Well it is basically no different to the catalogues you endlessly receive in the mail. Except now they are scanned and organised for you online so that you do not have to sift through a tonne of paper to find the products that may interest you. Not bad hey? Saving paper and Saving you money!

Other Pre-Shop things to consider

Price is not the only thing you need to consider when researching or pre shopping for an item. Remember to take the following points into account also:

  1. Do you have specific requirements of size, weight, usage or durability?
  2. What are the costs of any servicing or consumable goods?
  3. Are replacement parts easily available?
  4. Is after-sales support available?

How do you find cheap goods?

We would love to hear about how you find cheap goods and bargains using the internet or the like. Is there another way that people can save money and know they are finding the best deal?

Another innovative website is http://www.storespecials.com.au, which is so much more than a catalogue site

Featuring leading retailers, both large and small, the fast, fun and easy to use site is packed with features that will help the most discerning buyer find the best offer at the store nearest to them. Free to browse and to register.

Store Specials features real bricks and mortar retailers exclusively, giving consumers the confidence from buying from a real store.

Features include Compare Lists, Shopping Lists, Watch Lists, Ratings and the MyStore Rewards Loyalty Program, accessed once registered.

The http://www.store-specials.mobi site was launched last week and this allows consumers to browse the site from a web enabled phone, perfect to check the best price when shopping

As we say;
If you want to pay full price – that’s your business

If you want to pay the best price available – that’s our business

Hi Alex,

What are the major retailers on the Store Specials website?

Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks for the plug!

Some other great ways to save money and find the best bargains is to use http://www.ulasoo.com.au where you can easily share any bargains you find on Lasoo or the rest of the web with your friends. Not only does it make it easier to find recommendations from the crowd, but you can also run your own Google ads on your recommendations. I’ve already made $20 from pretty much just browsing for deals like I always do.

Some other great places for bargain hunting are http://www.victoriassecret.com, http://www.play-asia.com.au, http://www.booko.com.au/

actually, check this list of cool services

and this petrol price tracker

Hi Bruce,

I found this link that should help find out what retailers are listed:

http://www.storespecials.com.au/Retailers/AllRetailers.aspx?

They aren’t big names by the looks of it, but maybe the other Alex can elaborate more about the site?

Regards,

Alex

Thanks Alex.

None of these retailers are recognisable. Is this an Australian website?

Not sure sorry Bruce, I personally use Lasoo so would be best for you to try finding a way to contact them – I’m sure they will have the answer! =)
