Buying cheap furniture for Students

Buying furniture for your home can be a rather expensive task. The costs associated with couches, tables, bedside table, organisational furniture and more can quickly add up and cost an arm and a leg.

Today we are going to look at a few ways to furnish your home on the cheap. Whether it be buying new furniture or acquiring used pieces, the hope is that we can find an easy way to setup base at home without spending a great deal of money.

Decide what you need

This is pretty simple. List the top priorities on what furniture you need as that way you can start your bargain hunting.

IKEA

Ikea is a great place to buy new furniture that is easy to put together, low in cost and highly reliable. I suggest checking out the IKEA Australia website for finding your nearest store. Sometimes the stores can be placed in hard to reach locations, so try and factor in the costs of driving there also.

Ikea offer couches and tables plus much more and is a fraction of the cost of many second hand and new furniture stores.

Ask friends and family

Why not ask some of your friends and family if they have any furniture they wish to sell? Odds are most households have lots of unused furniture that just sits around as it is to hard to remove. I have personally scored some fantastic pieces of furniture like study desks from friends that only needed a bit of a touch up with paint.

eBay Furniture

eBay is increasingly becoming a place for people to offload their unused furniture. Of course these items cannot fit in the mail, so pickup is something that is key. Do a search on eBay by radius to your house, you will be surprised how many local people are offloading items.

Discount stores

Many discount stores offer pieces of furniture that you do not want to pay top dollar for. An example is a plastic drawer to store your socks and underwear, why not pick it up for $5 brand new at one of these stores? Beats paying hundreds for something you dont really need to be flash. These shops also offer cushions and other little bits and pieces to quickly and cheaply furnish your home.
