Avoid using ‘foreign’ ATMs
This is only a small post, but the savings it could make are huge! I recently got my Savings Account statement back only to find a debit from St.George for $40.00 – and its been happening for the past 6months after further investigation.
Why is this so? Its the ‘Non-St.George ATM Fees’. I could have saved over $240!
6months of $40.00 debit = $240 in money I could have saved by just using my own banks ATM instead of others. If only I had the hindsight a few months ago to know this! What scares me is that I am pretty sure that this has been happening for the entire life of my account (over 5 years) so imagine the savings I could have made!
What is a Foreign ATM?
A foreign ATM is that of any ATM that is not labeled by your particular bank. Eg; I am with St.George so I must use St.George ATMs or face the consequences. What a joke!
How to Avoid Using Foreign ATMs
Next time you see your normal ATM, think to yourself – ‘Do I need money? Will I need money today?’ and make a withdrawal accordingly. Sounds simple but you would be surprised how easy it is to use a foreign ATM when you are in a rush because you haven’t thought ahead about needing money.
