5 Things You Can Enjoy When You Have Money?

23 May 11 / Posted by: Fran Sidoti

I’m broke this week. Having furnished my new house, paid a couple of bills and several bonds, I am without any financial padding to make the days spin easier. So I write this as self-motivation, though David Ning at Wise Bread writes it as reality. Here are the reasons we all save and pinch- the things we will enjoy when we have money.

Big Picture, Not Little Costs

You’ve always bought the cheapest version of everything, provided it works effectively. But once you’re financially free, you can loosen those ties a little. If you’ve always wanted a nicer version of something, now you can afford to buy it. Not every time, but if you’re coming within your budget, then go for it. If you’re a naturally frugal person (or have worked hard to become one). you’re never going to splurge consistently. You might just treat yourself once in a while. Get a nicer stove, or a more expensive suit if it means a lot to you. After all, you genuinely earnt it.

You Can Risk Less

Some people love risk. They love the buzz, the adrenaline. Me- I could live a perfectly happy existence without worrying about money all night. I don’t need that kind of kick. If you’re financially free, experts suggest you can probably afford to move out of riskier money strategies. Your money might not grow at the same rate, but then again, either will your sleep deficit. And you won’t have nearly as much exposure should the market crash or a company go under.

You Can Look Long-Term

Having financial padding can mean you take less financial risk, and more risk with your lifestyle. Like quitting your job and getting some more education. That’s a risk you can afford to take if you’re financially free. Or investing- because you don’t need the money in the short-term, you can afford to put it to good use in the long-term. If you’re not living hand-to-mouth, you can look a bit further ahead.

You Can Work Less

I love working. I work a lot of hours, and I’m glad of them because they prove I’m getting closer to my goal. But if I could have financial security and possibly cut back a bit, that would be a concept I could get very interested in. As would, I suspect, most people. If you want to stay challenged and engaged, you can cut back your working week and have the best of both worlds.

You Can Be More Generous

Generosity is probably not something I should give up until I become financially stable. “I’m sorry, I would LOVE to help you out with your move, but I’m not yet financially secure”. Not something I can imagine going down real well with my peeps. But certainly, when times are less straightened, I look forward to being able to give the gifts that I know my loved ones would adore, or helping someone out at a pinch. Until then, all I can offer are cupcakes and cat-sitting abilities but I look forward to the day.
